PREFACE
To hold an orotone is to have a sense of presence. The soft tone of natural transmitted light produces an effect that evokes feeling and emotion. A person under its influence can smell the dry air of a mountain scene and be entranced by its beauty. The natural light draws the eye to the distant horizon. The brightness flatters the sunlight in a way which a painted picture can’t mimic. The feeling of antiquity and importance put forth by this rich presentation leaves the viewer satisfied, yet these subtle images go unnoticed by the masses. Those who beheld them when they were new allowed them to disappear; as if they were living in a place of beauty, eventually the view was taken for granted. Man can only mimic nature’s greatness and beauty, the orotone achieves this by using earth’s elements to paint the image in light. The historic artists, many of which were adventurers and inventors, leave a legacy that is largely ignored. They are underdogs with vision before their time. Come with us as we explore the past and this world of photography that has been largely ignored and unknown, until now.
