Postal History

Pictured to the left is a very nice sixth plate outdoor occupational daguerreotype. In this image mail bags can be seen piled high on the delivery sled while the driver stages a transaction for the camera. With log book open, he records his business with the patron. This image is highly desirable as it fits into two coveted sub-categories of daguerreotype collecting, the outdoor view, and the occupational. Additionally, it is somewhat scarce to find a long exposure photograph of an animal that is not blurred due to movement. The gem condition of this specimen amplifies its desirability to the collector.

A Note on Counterfeit Tintypes, Daguerreotypes, & Ambrotypes
It is easy to assume that these types of historic images are no longer made and that the technology is dead. This is not so as there are many making wet collodion images in the Civil War reenactment field. Additionally, contemporary daguerreotypists make beautiful images that could easily be made on reconditioned period plates.
